painting of a border collie

Jed

Susie is incredibly talented and has created the most beautiful and professional digital portrait of our beloved border collie, Jed. She has captured him brilliantly, and we look forward to him watching us from the wall every day!

Many thanks also for the help and expertise in choosing the right mount/frame/sizing to complement the portrait and all the regular updates regarding delivery also.

Exceptional. Can’t recommend Susie highly enough! A big thank you!

Doug & Luna

I cannot recommend Susie enough. The process from start to finish has been faultless, from her never-ending patience and guidance on how to get the best photograph, to her enthusiasm and genuine interest in learning about the dog behind the picture and her communication regarding the end result.

I have had commissions done of my previous dogs in acrylic and colour pencil but digital painting was new to me and I was wondering if I would get a similar result. Both paintings are exceptional and being digital are so much more versatile. I’m amazed at how well Doug and Luna’s personalities leap out at me despite Susie never having met them, the paintings don’t feel static but are full of life and movement. Friends and family are impressed at the likeness and my toddler instantly knew who the paintings were of. I can’t wait to order framed prints and I know Susie will work closely with me to get the perfect result to fit my home.

Bobby & Kenny

After seeing some of Susie’s previous portraits I was keen to see what she would do with my pair of cheeky fur-babies. Susie sent clear instructions for the images, such as light requirements, image quality etc and I just had to capture that right moment...easy right? Absolutely not! In all honesty the hardest part of this whole process was trying to capture a good quality photograph of one grumpy cat and one crazy camera shy puppy!

The rest really was so simple, for me at least...I was not the one commissioned to paint a black cat. Susie got to know my animals through our email conversations and I believe this knowledge is portrayed through the end result, my stunning portraits.

These portraits, beautifully presented and so detailed...the details in the eyes alone are mind boggling! The different hair textures, light reflections, all shown through these magical digital portraits that are so lifelike!

Susie carefully helped me choose the background colours for my portraits based on the animal’s character - I had mentioned at some point that Kenny was my little sunflower and so his background became a vibrant yellow, a perfect contrast to his multi-toned black fur. I just cannot wait to get these portraits on my wall where I can admire them at my leisure! I can’t thank Susie enough.

Rupert’s Portrait

I have never commissioned a portrait before but having seen some of Susie’s other work I was really keen to have a digital portrait of my dog, Rupert. As a vet I know a lot about dogs and very little about art but Susie was able to give me all of the advice I needed regarding taking and sending photos, printing and framing.

When I saw the portrait online I could not believe how life like it was. When the printed image arrived it looked stunning. The likeness was truly remarkable!

The process of sending the images to Susie was really simple and I was totally over awed with the final product. The ability to get such an amazing portrait without having to leave the house was brilliant especially in these days of social distancing. I would definitely consider commissioning more works from Susie as presents for family or friends.

Hughie

We had hesitated to commission a portrait of our baby boy Hugh because we had little experience in such things and felt daunted by the time, expense and commitment a traditional painting would involve. Susie’s digital paintings solved all of this.

We could plan it together remotely by sharing images over email, agreeing a few general ideas so that Susie could develop a draft in a few days. We learnt that digital portraits are endlessly flexible in a way that traditional portraits are not, as Susie reworked elements simply and quickly as the portrait evolved. She made it easy and fun for us by bringing all her abundant kindness and energy to the process, and we absolutely love her finished painting.

She has enormous talent, capturing Hughie brilliantly whilst surrounding him in a rich and colourful set of personal stories. We feel so fortunate to have Susie’s portrait of our baby. It is treasured in our home and we can’t wait to give copies to his grandparents for Christmas.

Aiva

The portrait was amazing. It’s such a true likeness to Aiva mid-meow! It’s really playful, much like my kitty’s character. It was lovely to receive it, so well packaged and the black frame really showcased the portrait.

It’s in my bedroom, where I can see it from my bed. Aiva is often to be found at the end of my bed napping but she’s usually facing the other way! It makes me smile when I look at it. The soft pink background also really goes with my white and grey decor.

I really didn’t know much about digital portraiture before this. I then came across some of Susie’s work on her social media page. I loved seeing the videos of how the painting progressed, from an outline and then the shading and gradually becoming more and more detailed. I saw a more detailed video on her social media showing how she draws freehand on a digital canvas, on a computer screen, using an image for reference.

I’ve never commissioned an artwork before. Whenever I have bought a piece of art before it’s been something that I’ve seen in person and loved. This was a completely new experience. However, I felt very confident that I would love the finished painting, based on previous work of Susie’s that I had seen.

Susie is very warm and personable and offer so many flexible options, such as changing the background and choosing how to mount the artwork and I really appreciated the option of having the portrait posted out to me. I think what was especially lovely was seeing how the artwork progressed in a video snippet. I also loved that she used music alongside this, which matched the personality of my cat very well.

Corina

I absolutely love Susie’s painting of me. It looks so life like but it’s much more than that. Susie managed to capture the essence and feeling of the picture with her painting.

She created a beautiful background which took it from a nice selfie to a picture I want to hang up on my wall. I have never came across digital painting before but Susie is clearly an expert at it and I feel honoured to have been captured by her beautiful art.

Bismarck

I’m really happy with Susie’s digital portrait of Bismarck. I asked her to draw it for my mum.

Susie really captured Bismarck’s character in a beautiful final piece! It’s also nice that she is able to change the background colour so easily.

I didn’t know much about Digital painting but after talking to Susie, I think it’s a great alternative to traditional painting (and much cheaper too) - Rosie

I am so delighted with Susie’s digital portrait. I have many photos plus a painting of my dog already but this is unique in that you can see and enjoy not only the finished artwork but also the creative process that led to it; something worth experiencing and admiring again and again. She is skilled at encapsulating and demonstrating the dog’s personality - Rosie’s Mum

Jeff & Corina

I gave Susie a picture of me and Corina dancing naturally. I did not know what to expect but I was hugely impressed and surprised how she managed to capture the organic element of our movement and pleasure of dance, giving it so much more life than the original reference image.

The digital art Susie created truly captured the history, emotion and passion in our dance and lifestyle. Dance has always been a massive part of my life and many people never really understand what that means to a dancer. So the fact that Susie could, and enhanced our moment in dance, was beautiful.

Susie was very accommodating when it came to ordering a framed digital print and gave me many options, which I happily let her choose as I trusted her artistic eye and choice. The ordering process was extremely easy and the painting was delivered very quickly and in perfect order. I’ve hung it up on my studio wall, proudly exhibiting it to all my friends, family and students.

Before commissioning and ordering this artwork, I never really looked at digital art as something I would consider in the same league as watercolour, oil, charcoal etC... But Susie has blown that misconception completely out of the water.

I would highly recommend Susie’s artistic digital skills to anyone. You will get a truly unique piece of art captured by a very gifted artist.

Maggie

We are absolutely delighted with the beautiful portrait that Susie did of our terrier Maggie. She worked so hard to incorporate all aspects of her personality and the final painting she produced really jumps out at you. We have had so many great comments from friends and family about it. We can’t wait to get it printed and up on the wall!

As an artist, Susie is brilliant to work with. Collaborative, a good listener, full of great ideas and a fast worker. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anybody!

Maggie says, “It’s pretty hard not to create an amazing painting of me because I am so beautiful.”

Guinness

I just wanted to thank Susie for the superb portrait she did of Guinness. It has proved extremely difficult to get photos of him over the years as, being black, he does not come out that well.

In his 17+ years we probably only have a handful of decent pics! It was fascinating watching, online, how she built the picture up and the finished article captures him to a tee, his posture, look and essence. I never realised how specialised digital painting was, taking a treasured photo as reference and creating an artwork that incorporates the very spirit of the subject.

It now has pride of place in our Dining Room and has been greatly admired by all his/our friends who we shared it with. It is the first time we have tried getting a portrait of Guinness and it was so easy I wish we had thought of it before. Once again many thanks, it will be part of the family for decades to come.

Samwell

What makes this portrait special to me is that Sam is no longer with us, so it reminds me of what a loving and silly cat he was. We were able to put it up in the room in our house that we will always associate him with, and I still look for him out of habit when I go in there.

Susie was very prompt with communication, and clear on what I should expect with regards to timings, and delivery. I am a very structured person so this is important to me. The portrait is good quality, and the frame has a nice finish. I love the image Susie has created, and I will always display it in my home.

I am a stickler for paint, I have many paintings in my home, and I am old fashioned in many respects - for example I still read books in paper format as I am not that keen on digital things where there are alternatives. I think this process has made me appreciate the energy and creativity that a digital painting takes, and that it is as much of an art form as the brush and paint method!
