Another painting finds a new home. Looking at the meaning we attach to certain places and how they root us in our history and identity.
My oil painting of Fulham Railway Bridge, seen from Putney Bridge at sunrise, went off to a lovely new home yesterday!
Originally unframed, I sorted out a simple white box frame for the occasion with the help of Jacksons Framers
It's made me reflect on the many strolls I have taken around this bridge over the years, always surprised by how dramatically different the times of day and tide can change the scene.
I think of all the walks and conversations I've had, all the states of mind I've been in, through rain and sun. These places are so full of experiences and memory they are almost a living being, an old friend and confident, that are a little part of our hearts and the abstract notion of what 'home' is.
Do you have a favourite place that makes you feel this way?

Final Day of Studio Sale - Putney Boats
My studio sale ends tonight, so I am spotlighting an ‘evening’ themed painting of Putney boats at dusk. Read on to find out more about this artwork and further details about my sale.
STUDIO SALE ENDS MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
My last highlight for this sale sequence is my painting of Putney Boats, Evening (oil on canvas board, 8 x 10 inches)
These boats are part of a lovely cluster, moored off the riverside quarter pier, right next to my local Wandsworth park.
Silhouetted against the fading evening light, the view looks out across the river toward the Hurlingham club and harbour.
I have painted these boats from many angles, times of day and tides, but this evening scene played with a very different palette of colour, where less was more and everything was focused around that extraordinary shift between the dwindling natural light of day and the introduction of these fairy-like glimmers of electric light which danced in reflections across the water.

The Other Side of Richmond Bridge
With 3 days to go before the end of my studio sale, today I am highlighting another version of Richmond Bridge, seen from a different angle and painted with an alternative palette. Read on for the full story behind this painting.
STUDIO SALE SPOTLIGHT - 4 DAYS TO GO
Today I am looking at a variation on yesterday's theme on Richmond Bridge. Presenting Richmond Bridge, Blue Tones [oil on canvas, 33.7 x 17.5 cm framed]
Having walked along and under Richmond bridge, this was the view from the south side looking north. So whilst the other side of the bridge was ablaze with sunshine, this side was awash in cool and refreshing shadows.
Again I emphasized the colour contrasts and palette, picking out and the colour harmonies of blues and oranges, reds and greens.
These paintings of Richmond bridge were conceived together and I like to think of them as two sides of a coin, echoing two moods, perhaps two states of mind.
Which one do you prefer?

Studio Sale count down - Richmond Bridge painting Spotlight
Counting down the last few days of my Studio sale with a daily painting spotlight. Today I am looking at my oil on canvas painting of Richmond Bridge, read on for the full story.
Richmond Bridge on a Summer’s Day, oil on canvas, 33.7 x 17.5 cm framed.
STUDIO SALE SPOTLIGHT - 4 DAYS TO GO
In the countdown to the end of my studio sale, I'm sharing the stories behind a few of the paintings featured.
Today is my painting of Richmond Bridge on a Summer's day [oil on canvas, 33.7 x 17.5 cm framed]
I was on the north side of the bridge, looking south and saw the bridge set alight by the warm glow of the midday sun. I went to town on this with colour and emphasised the golden heat of yellows, pinks and oranges in beautiful contrast with the cool refreshing blues of the river and shadows. My aim was a little dose of summer in a painting, hopefully it hits the mark! What do you reckon?
